One thing I think is cool is that there are Becoming an Outdoor Women classes that get women out and teach them how to hunt and fish. But what about us wilderness-challenged guys?

Am I nuts for thinking that it would be taking the BOW concept to another level to have events where women teach GUYS how to hunt?

I grew up in Western NY and didn't start shooting until my 20s. Now I teach NRA Basic Handgun classes and compete in DCM rifle matches but I've never managed to get any hunting experience...

Being someone who has been to a BOW weekend who grew up backpacking, hunting, fishing etc, the BOW programs are designed and excecuted because traditionally women haven't been 'outdoors' types. Also, for women, it can be really intimidating to learn a new skill with guys around. From experiencing both I can tell you there is a definite difference. Plus, it's a lot more acceptable for a guy to do all these outdoor things than it is for a woman.

A lot of states offer secondary hunter-safety classes, if you have already taken the begining one. You'll want to check your state Fish and Game department website and see what they offer. If you are looking for hunting experience there are TONS of groups and clubs you can join... I can't think of any right at this moment, but just look on the internet. A lot of hunting is just going out and trying it too, but if you are just starting out I'd recommend starting with pheasant or quail. All you need are a gun, boots, and a dog. Having a buddy is a good idea always, but not essential.
