I checked my State (Alabama) and there is a Bill (Senate Bill 541) up for vote and there is also an article at NRA website about it.

****************************************

Ammo Confiscation
(*Many* Americans are scared-to-death at what's coming....)

The bill that is being pushed in 18 states (including Illinois and Indiana) requires all ammunition to be encoded by the manufacturer in a data base of all ammunition sales. So they will know how much you buy and what calibers. Nobody can sell any ammunition after June 30, 2009 unless the ammunition is coded.

Any privately held uncoded ammunition must be destroyed by July 1, 2011.(Including hand loaded ammo.) They will also charge a .05 cent tax on every round so every box of ammo you buy will go up at least $2.50 or more!

If they can deprive you of ammo they do not need to take your gun!

This legislation is currently pending in 18 states: Alabama, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Washington.

Actually, it's less to keep track of your purchases than it is to keep track of what you fire in the commision of a crime.

Still, it's a stupid law that is in fact a taxation lacking voter approval and a violation (presumed) of the 2nd and fourth amendments. What it really is is another fucking irritation foisted on law abiding americans by true believer anti-gun PC troopers.

To be honest with you - it is not such a far-fetched idea of happening. Look at history - it has happened before that I can remember twice....Germany and Russia

Gernay and Russia are not AMERICA.

searching the entirety of America for "illegal" ammo is nevr going to happen.
or- the day it does is the day 80 million Americans show the gov't who is who
            or - BANG

it's designed to be a defacto ban on ammunition
making it more expensive for the mfgs

              someone in power watched Chris Rock's comedy routine where;
if ammo is expensive enough, there'll be less crime.

"it's designed to be a defacto ban on ammunition making it more expensive for the mfgs"

Who will then pass the cost on to the consumer. Me and you. I don't think "Ban" means what you think it does.

I don't know about things in everyone's area but around here many of us cannot even find ammo for hunting season. It seems the stores are out of stock and have little to nothing coming in. What is coming in are odd-ball rounds or small cal. rounds.

We can get it but not alot. I've heard it called the Obama Effect, where supposedly we're all out buying up as much as we can before the new administration enacts more bans.

Yeah I know what BAN means, SAS; do you know what "de facto" means?

to finish my line of thinking; California's safe handgun list has stopped all manner of firearms from being sold here (in that their manufacturers did NOT decide to pass the $$$ onto the consumer). Those pistols are no longer available here in the people's republic. The lawmakers weren't out to stop "unsafe" handguns like they claimed. They managed to ban most makes and models that would otherwise be for sale here.

Don't think that every ammo mfg will agree to serialize their product to sell to us here in CA. We'll lose at least half the product line we're currently used to.
